Hello Lightning Tamers!
This weeks Weekly Picks are of the plasma, Neon, and Light works displayed during the Glass Art Society Conference in Murano, Itlay at Fondazione Berego Exhibtion Space by Berengo Studio. The GAS conference opened up Murano in a way that has not been before, with 1800 glass artists and enthusiasts on the island. Originally this exhibiton was only scheduled to be up during the Conference, but the owner of the Exhibtion Space was so amazed by the works that will be on display until November. We've made quite an impact with our small exhibition. Many of attendees and locals alike have never seen anything like it. The use of plasma neon is brand new experince to those working within the framework of "traditional" glassblowing as a craft and artistic medium.
Also note, that I've split all the images/video form the exhibtion into three posts per instagrams image/video limit.
While Taming Lighting is a Neon and Plasma dominant interest, I've chosen to include those works wthin the exhibtion using other forms of light. Enjoy! Percy Echols II Taming ⚡Lightning

“WITH MOST OF THE WORK I MAKE, I TRY TO FIND THE BALANCE BETWEEN SUBTLETY AND LOUDNESS. SO, I TRY TO MAKE THE PIECES SOFT AND QUIET, BUT I HOPE PEOPLE CAN SIT WITH THEM AND REALLY THINK ABOUT THEM. THEY’RE LOUD IN THE WAY THAT YOU CARRY THEM WITH YOU AND REVISIT LATER.”- STEPHANIE EXPLAINS.

I invited her on the podcast after seeing her posts on Facebook and Instagram. Initially hesitant to the invitation, but she was happy to share her experience as a glassblower at the beginning of a new process. Here we’ll be illuminating the struggles of learning Plasma, the issues she had to overcome, as well as the role that the residency for an artist developing new work, and importance of mentorship and support.
Without further ado, onto the podcast! Show Notes
Thank You for listening to the Taming Lightning Podcast.
I'd like to thank Harry for taking the time to be on the podcast, especially between residencies. And for being open to talk about her experience in working with a new and difficult medium. Also, I'd like to thank Pittsburgh Glass Center for supporting me as a place of research and inspiration, as well as encouraging me to pursue this project, and the Plasma Art Alliance where I have access to the well of knowledge and connects me to some amazing people. Keep an eye out for more classes at Pittsburgh Glass Center as we work to provide a space for learning neon and plasma. Check us out at www.pittsburghglasscenter.org or call our studio at 412-365-2145. See you next time! Percy Echols II Taming Lightning⚡ More Content

Cold Attached Electrode
Thanks to Harry's careful documentation, I can talk about some of the things she does in her process, and SHOW one of 3 types of electrode attachments: Hot, Warm/Kiln, and Cold. I'll go into more detail about Electrode attachement in future posts.
There's a lot more to the process of electrode attachement, especially between different glasses: softglass vs borosilcate, electrodeless/wireless, and Making Your Own Electrodes. Which I hope to update after Wayne and Mundy's Class is August.
Hello Lightning Tamers!
My first fill for this piece was last year, where I left the tubulation longer incase I wanted to change it. Well on Wednesday with the guidance of Mr. Mundy @mundymhepburn, Still limited to Neon and Argon gas, we were able to come up with something more interesting. I did apply some phosphors to add a little pop, luckily there was enough emitted UV for them for it glow a bit yellow on the inside of hte glass. The use of phoshors is much more effective in plasma with the use of krypton or Xenon gase or in the case of Neon Tubing/Traditional Neon using argon with mercury. Now that everything is together, it's ready for my trip to Venice, Italy for the Glass Art Society Conference on Murano! Stay tuned for exciting content while i'm there, images from the Vetro Illuminato exhibition, video/audio from lectures and demos, and maybe some video podcasts!
Hope you enjoy the Weekly⚡Picks!
